We are generally using the Creative Commons copyright agreement which has three different descriptors that can be used in combination:
Attribution: You may use the image as long as you give credit to the user.
Non-commercial: The image can be used for non-commercial (e.g., educational) purposes only.
No derivatives: The image cannot incorporated into a new work.
Sometime you will see the license "IYA-ONLY" which means the image can only be used in reference to the International Year of Astronomy e.g., for IYA public talks, displays or promotional material, with attribution of course. Other creators have more explicit terms of use.
